THE PROJECT

Practical, nimble, and iconic - the Cessna 172 Skyhawk is the most produced airplane in the world. In fact, Cessna has been making Skyhawks since the 1950s! For this project, we provided seating, sidewall panels, carpets, and a glare shield cover for a client’s Skyhawk. All parts were supplied via Generation Global’s website and came with certificates of conformity and proper burn certificates. These documents allowed our client to certify the installation of the interior on their aircraft.

This particular Cessna was a 1975-86 model, and we made seat covers to match its specific configuration. For the two individual front seats and the rear bench seat, we supplied two-toned covers. Each cover featured a sand leather (4041) center with chocolate leather (4181) framing. We were very pleased with the clean, contrasting look, and our client was too.

We used a matching chocolate leather for the headrests. And, for the final touch, we embossed a brown, finely-detailed Cessna logo onto the seat backs of the pilot and co-pilot seats.

For this aircraft’s cabin floors, we used specially-cut, brown Kirsh (WN-120) carpet. Each carpet piece was mesh-bound with a matching mesh and backed with a durable underlay. The carpets also include heel mats for both the pilot and co-pilot (Please note the heel mats in the photo still have a protective film over the aluminum).

The sidewalls in the aircraft were multi-layered. Kirsh carpet was used for the bottom layer, and we included a hidden document stowage pocket for the pilot. The carpets on the door and the front panel also include a matching leather edge, which wrapped cleanly into the door to create a sharp-looking finish. Above the carpet, for the insert, we again used chocolate leather (4181) and sand leather (4041) - that insert runs horizontally down the cabin.

Moving over to the console, we supplied a new glare shield and eyebrow covers. These were made with a black UV vinyl that helps absorbs sunlight that would otherwise be reflected into the pilots’ eyes. Because it’s not very visible, the eyebrow cover is often forgotten about during interior revamps - but we made sure this one was properly replaced.
