THE PROJECT

This project saw the Generation Global team refreshing the seating on a Schweizer 269 for a client in the Netherlands. Quite small and very nimble, the 269 is a light utility helicopter that was originally introduced by Hughes Helicopters in 1964 (Schweizer Aircraft bought the production license in the 80s). For this client’s 269, we supplied seat back and base covers and cushions for the crew seat, passenger seat, and the center “dicky” seat.

GALLERY

The crew and passenger seats on a Schweizer are made up of individual back and base squabs mounted directly to the airframe structure. The seatbacks have composite backing panels that are shaped specifically to mold with the contours of the bulkhead. Each seatback is secured to the bulkhead using velcro attachments.

The upholstery dress covers were made with a subdued, Charcoal Gray leather (ADI-1121). Perforated leather on the center inserts helps improve wicking and breathability. We also embroidered detailed Schweizer logos in a lighter-colored thread on each seatback.

THE CLIENT

Our client for this completed project is located in the Netherlands. They sport multiple bases of operation across the country, and their business is multi-pronged; they perform maintenance and engine overhauls, contract with commercial and government organizations, and run a registered flight training school. Boasting the largest private helicopter fleet in the country, they have aircraft ranging from the sizable H155 (originally known as the Aérospatiale Dauphin) all the way down to the tiny Schweizer 269.
