THE PROJECT

For this project, our team replaced key interior pieces on a Robinson R44 helicopter. We worked on everything from carpets, headlining, and seating to crash rail covers. See all the R44 helicopter parts on the Generation Global online shop.

The headlining we provided was made from a foam-backed fabric and featured a light opal colouring. Unlike some other headlinings, this headliner doesn’t have cutouts for air conditioning on its rear bulkhead, nor does it have handhold cutouts on its exterior.

We furnished these R44 floorcoverings with new Genflor Zimmer carpets (WN-120), which featured mesh binding on their edges. We also installed perspex heelmats for both the pilot and co-pilot.

For the seats and crash rail covers, we used Charcoal Grey leather (ADI-1121). The seat covers are of a Generation II design. We carefully embossed the R44 logo onto four seats’ seat backs.

Behind the front passenger seats, there is a head-height rail, from which the shoulder belts are mounted. To protect passengers’ heads, we wrapped that rail with soft crash rail covers. Each cover is foam-lined and is thick enough to act as a headrest for the front-row passengers.

The seat cushions were made from pre-cut Genlite foam segments, which were glued to the seats’ base shells. (The base of R44 passenger seats is backed with a composite shell.) Each seat base shell is hinged on one edge and sports retainer strips on its other three sides. Below each seat is storage space, which can be easily accessed by lifting the seat.
