THE PROJECT

Lightweight, versatile, and reliable, the Robinson R22 has been a favorite of small helicopter operators since the aircraft was first produced in 1979. For this project, we provided a complete interior refresh for a client’s R22, furnishing new seating, carpets, headlining, and control boots. Items were purchased from the Generation Global website and were shipped for free. The interior was sharply styled, with sophisticated tan seating contrasting against more subdued gray and black elements.

The seats in this client’s R22 were of a Generation II style. For their covers, we provided striking Saddle Brown leather (ADI-4111 ); each insert was patterned with Diamond quilting (SA001), offering a lovely touch of class. The double stitching on all the outer seams as well as the quilting was done in a thread that exactly matched the leather. Meanwhile, control boots were furnished in black leather (ADI-1091). That same leather was also used for the pockets that are mounted below each seat.

Our client opted to purchase the R22 under-seat insulation kit which fits in the bottom of the storage area beneath their seats. Floorcoverings were also made from carpet Genflor Zimmer (WN-120), and each was provided with an underlay that allowed for easy attachment to the floor. Each carpet also sported durable perspex heel mats, to which decals could be attached.

The remainder of the project focused on the headlining and rear bulkhead. Two headlining panels and the rear bulkhead were both furnished in a muted Grey Geneva fabric (HL-108). Each panel is composed of laminated foam and fabric. The small triangle parts seen in the photo above were for a cut out in the roof window. At Generation Global, we pay close attention to even the smallest details. We think our clients notice the difference.
