THE PROJECT
The 172 Skyhawk has been manufactured by Cessna for over half a century - boasting greater production numbers than any other single aircraft model, it is a truly iconic plane. For this project, we supplied seating, trim panels, and headlining to an aircraft maintenance organization. These parts were then returned to the client to be installed in conjunction with the scheduled maintenance. All parts are aviation-certified parts. If you’ve got a similar project on deck, all parts are also available on the Generation Global website.

The two front seats and the rear bench seat of this Cessna were some of the earlier designs of seats. We performed a complete refurbish, which included new seat diaphragms, new interior foam, and sharp new leather covers. The covers were made from Lead Grey Leather (ADI-1111). Perforated leather (SP1), which helps with wicking and airflow, was used for the center insert, which also sported vertical stitching down its midline. Non-perforated leather was used for the rest of the upholstery. All seats had matching double stitching on their outer seams.
For the trim panels, we used grey Athena (012) vinyl along with matching lead grey piping. On the floor, we provided Genflor Zimmer carpet for both the cabin and the rear baggage compartment. For this 172’s suspended headlining, we supplied in Pearl vinyl. Sporting a slightly different shade of grey, it added a bit of contrast when viewed together with the seats. Finally, the rear baggage area took a near-black vinyl (Liquorice). Our client was able to install every piece with ease, and the end product was a Skyhawk that looked good as new.
THE CLIENT
Our client for this project, based in Taupo, New Zealand, was a maintenance organistation that specialises in helicopters and light aircraft. They are certified to maintain aircraft and both supply and overhaul parts under NZCAA. They are also a licensed maintenance provider for Robinson helicopters.
