THE PROJECT

For this sizable project, Generation Global’s team provided a regional airline in Canada with replacement covers for their Y-class pax seats. These covers were installed in Bombardier Q400 aircraft which have 74 Pax seats in a 2-2 seating configeration.

The seat covers we provided were for the Spectrum series Y-class (i.e., economy-class) seat. All covers were made from featherweight leather, which was specifically requested by the client to save weight. The leather was sourced from the USA and was colored in French Blue. The faces were padded with a soft fiber fill layer and have a scrim backing.

Each seat backrest cover sports a scalloped insert design with stitching following the state of the seat contours. Each seat back, meanwhile, has a storage pocket and a cut-out for the tray table latch. The seat bottom covers are plain with no seams on the face to give optimum comfort. The seat bottoms have 4 slightly narrowed cushions which are fitted to the emergency exit row seats and have tray tables within the armrest.

HISTORY

The Bombardier Q400 aircraft has a strong history in the country of Canada. The Dash 8 series was developed in the late 70's and early 80's by the government-owned De Havilland Aircraft of Canada.
In the early 1900s, British aviator Geoffrey De Havilland developed the biplane known as the Moth. And it was his British De Havilland Aircraft Company that established the De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, which produced the aircraft for the air training scheme of the British commonwealth during the second world war.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada was sold to Boeing before being bought back by Bombardier Inc of Canada, who also acquired aviation companies such as Canadair and Learjet. Bombardier led the development of the CRJ as well as a series of business jets. The De Havilland of Canada company name is on several original aircraft, including the DHC-8, that have been sold by Bombardier to Longview Aviation, another Canadian company.
