THE PROJECT
For this project, our team refurbished the seats and armrests of a Cessna 185 Skywagon. Our client shipped their seats to Generation Global’s New Zealand facility - there, our team stripped them back to their frames and got to work.

First, each seat frame was stipped back and painted black before having new diaphragms fitted. Once the seat frames were complete, we attached new foam cushions to the frames and fitted new seat dress covers. The leather selected for this project was chosen for its vintage look. The vintage leather was used as the primary material on the seat covers as well as the armrests’ wrappings.
Each cover was made from full-grain, waxed aniline leather, which gives off a classic “distressed” look. The two front seat covers featured white piping running around the outer edges of their seat faces and around the edges of the seat back and base inserts.
The rear bench seat and second-row auxiliary single seats are slightly more modest, having only piping along their outer edges and the leading edge of their armrests. Each of the two front seats’ inserts is also fluted, as are the back and base inserts on the rear bench seat and second-row auxiliary single seats. For a final, customized touch, we embroidered the Cessna 185 logo, in white, onto the seat back of the two front seats.
