About the Aircraft & Its Legacy

This Cessna 185 ski plane operates from Mount Cook, New Zealand, a historic hub for alpine aviation. Since 1986, it has flown tourists and skiers across the snow-covered peaks. The aircraft is part of a company with a rich aviation heritage, dating back to 1955, when it pioneered the world’s first retractable ski system. On its inaugural glacier landing, the aircraft carried Sir Edmund Hillary, just two years after his historic Everest summit.

Today, the company continues to operate a fleet including the Cessna 185, Pilatus PC6, and Eurocopter AS350 helicopters, ensuring unforgettable aerial experiences over New Zealand’s stunning alpine landscapes.
